Create high quality PDFs from webpages using Chrome’s built-in PDF Printer

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Being that we are all, obviously, huge PDF fans, we have come across a very useful way to convert webpages to PDFs when using the Chrome browser. The Google Chrome browser comes with a built-in PDF printer which can be used for converting web articles into PDF. It doesn’t allow for the conversion of any other types of document to PDF, just web pages. If you need anything else converted to a PDF, then you can use our own Cometdocs.

Compared to other web PDF printers, the Chrome printer produces very high quality PDF files. The printer does a good job of recreating the web page almost perfectly, with all text and pictures included. You can also selected and copy the text from the PDF, unlike with some other PDF printers, which just take a screenshot, creating PDFs which would have to go through OCR process in order to be converted to text.

The whole conversion process is pretty straightforward. Just right click anywhere on the page and choose the Print option.

Now in the list of printers, choose the option Print to PDF. As you can see on the right side there is a Print Preview as well, so you can see how will your PDF file look like.

After that, determine where you want the document to be saved, which completes this fast process.

However, the one problem that many complain about when printing web images is that there is too much clutter involved, meaning that the ads and other extraneous pictures are transferred to PDF as well.

One way to deal with this is to install a Chrome extension called Readability, which effectively removes this clutter from your PDF.

So if you want to print the web page to PDF, first you need to convert it to the Readability reading view like you see on the picture, and then repeat the process from above.

How to export your data from Google services

Did you know that Google has a service which allows you to download all your data? The service’s name is Google TakeOut, and with it you can download data from one or all of Google’s services that you may use, including Google +, Buzz, Circles, Contacts, Documents, Knol, Picasa Web Albums, Profile, Stream and Google Voice.

Just head over to Google Takeout and you’ll see a list of all the services that can be linked to it.

You can immediately click on “Create Archive” in order to create an archive from any or all of these services.

To choose particular services, click on “Choose Service” and decide which ones you want to use. Then click on “Create Archive.” If you have a lot of data, it will take several minutes for all of the data to be exported.

Once the process is complete, a link will appear in the Download section, with which you will be able to export your data.

This service is very useful, especially if you want to export a large collection of documents while and data at once. Also, it is useful if you are planning on closing your Google account or getting another one. It is also a great way to back up all of your data in the case that you might experience any problems with your Google account, making this a great way to avoid losing anything that may be important to you.

How to convert and upload mp3 music to Youtube?

Have you ever not been able to find a song you like on Youtube and then had the need to upload it yourself? Maybe  you have written and recorded a song of your own and would like to upload it to Youtube for the world to hear. If you have tried to upload your music to Youtube, you might have noticed that the site does not accept mp3s, only video formats.

Thankfully there is a way to get around that.

You will have to turn your mp3 of music into a video or simply create a video for your song.

There are online services out there that can convert your mp3s into a video file, but a lot of them limit you as far as the size of the file that you can upload and how creative you can get with the visual aspects of your video.

The easiest way to get your mp3s onto Youtube is to make a simple video in the Windows Live Movie Maker, which is a free software that you can download from Microsoft website.

First you need to add your music and accompanying pictures in the video. Be careful with the images you choose to display, because you don’t want to infringe on any copyrights, but still, try to use images that are relevant to the music. For example, if it is a song your grandmother used to sing to you, you can put a picture of her, or maybe pictures from your childhood.

First click on Add music or music to add the song of your choice to the project, and then just take the file and drag it down to the reel.

To import the images, just click on Import photos and select pictures from your computer that you want to use.

You will notice that once you drag the images down onto the reel, you will have to adjust the amount of time each image appears in the video by simply clicking it and stretching it.  If you do not want to do this manually, just go to Project and then to Fit to music, which gives all of your images an equal amount of time over the music.

You can also include some animations to spice up the video a bit. Click on Animate and choose your desired animation. Experiment a bit, because there are a lot of interesting effects to choose from when transitioning between images in your video.

After everything is finished you can save the video on your computer by clicking on Save Movie File in the File menu. Once you have the video file on your computer, you can then upload it to your Youtube account and share it with others.

How to Create and Convert your Fonts?

Microsoft Windows comes with its own predetermined fonts that you can choose from when you are using its programs – most notably word processing programs like Microsoft Word.

But there are many more creative and interesting fonts out there that do not come with Windows. You can use these fonts to make your writing and presentation stick out and look unique in a crowd. There are lots of websites that offer great font collections, for example http://www.identifont.com/ or http://www.identifont.com/.

When you download a font, you can right click on it and click Install (if you have Windows 7) or if you have Windows XP you can follow this instruction: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/windows_fonts_addnew.mspx?mfr=true

Since Fonts can come in multiple formats and some of the formats are specific for a certain Operating System, you can convert them into the matching format. The most common font formats are rueType (.ttf), OpenType (.oft) and PostScript (.ps). If you find a font that is in some other format and want to convert it to one of these, you can use this Free Online Font Converter. It supports almost all major formats. Just upload the fonts you want converted and click on Convert button.

However, if you want to create fonts of your own, you can do that too. Even if you are not a web designer or a person who knows how to use Adobe Photoshop or similar software, you can still make your own fonts.  All you need to do is to visit this website: http://fontstruct.com/.

On this website, you can create your fonts by adding building blocks. It is a very good mechanism for creating new fonts that even complete beginners can master.

All you need to do is to register and make your own account. First, you will be presented with options to create fonts by adding and organizing small blocks. There is a preview options that lets you see how your font is progressing and you will need to create a letter or a sign for each key on the keyboard when you are making an all new font. When you finish, you can download the Fonts in TrueType format, which is supported by both Mac and Windows.

Here’s another quick tip regarding fonts. If you use downloaded fonts on your computer and want to send a text to a friend, that person will not be able to see the text if he or she doesn’t have the same fonts installed on his or her own computer. In order to avoid this problem, the best solution would be to convert what you write to PDF. PDF is visible on every computer.  You can do it by using our free online PDF creation service - Cometdocs, or by using some kind of PDF printer like this one, for example:  http://www.pdfconverter.com/freepdfcreator/

4.       Quality of PDFs

If you have uploaded your PDF file on Scribd and you are not satisfied with how it looks, the problem might be the quality of your PDF file. In that case, you might want to change your PDF creation tool. You can use Cometdocs for PDF creation, Adobe’s PDF creation online service, or online file- to-PDF creators.

5.      Make your documents easy to discover
